PATRIOTS’ DAY 2026 • THE 130TH BOSTON MARATHON • PARKING & ROAD CLOSURES • I-90 EXIT ALERTS • PUBLIC RESTROOM LOCATOR • THE NIGHT SHIFT

Boston is officially a movie today. As we hit Patriots’ Day 2026, the city is a full takeover. The streets are packed, the energy is high, and from the start line in Hopkinton to the final stretch on Boylston Street, the city is moving at a pace that only Boston can handle.

If you’re out here in the mess at the Hynes Expo or trying to secure a spot at Kenmore Square, you need to know what’s actually happening. With 1.1 Million People in the city today, a “plan” isn’t just a suggestion—it’s how you survive. Here is the real pulse of the city for the 130th running of the Marathon.

The Morning Takeover: The Race & The Sox

The big 130

1. The Boston Marathon

26.2 miles of pure grit. The Elite Men are off at 9:37 AM, followed by the Elite Women at 9:47 AM. Wave 1 kicks off at 10:00 AM. If you want to see the winners crowned, get yourself to Boylston Street by the Library—just be ready for the loudest energy in the state.

Fenway Tradition

2. Red Sox vs. Tigers

The Sox are playing the early morning game—it’s tradition. First pitch against the Tigers is at 11:10 AM. If you’re at Fenway, you’re grabbing that special Patriots’ Day Windbreaker before you head over to Kenmore to watch the runners hit the ‘one mile to go’ mark.

The Foundation

3. Historic Reenactments

For the people up at 5:30 AM, the Battle of Lexington on the Battle Green is where the day actually started. Parades are moving through Lexington and Concord all morning, honoring the history that built this city.

Logistics: Parking & Road Closures

Driving in the city today is a headache you don’t want. With 100+ roads closed, you need to know where the dead ends are before you get stuck.

Mass Pike Alert

I-90 Exit & Entrance Closures

MassDOT isn’t playing around today. Watch these exits:

  • Exit 133 (Copley/Prudential): The Eastbound Off-Ramp is CLOSED until 3:00 PM. If you try to exit here, you’re getting funneled straight to South Station.
  • Exit 131 (Brighton/Cambridge): This is your last real pivot point. Expect massive delays. Only use this if you’re heading to the North End.
  • Mass Ave Bridge: Locked down for everyone but emergency vehicles and race transport. No crossing until 6:00 PM.

Where To Actually Park

Don’t even try street parking—you’ll get towed. Use these garages if you have to drive:

  • Boston Common Garage: The most reliable for Downtown. Enter via Charles Street. It’ll be full by 10:00 AM.
  • Post Office Square: The local secret. It’s a 15-minute walk to the action, but usually has space and a better holiday rate.
  • Prudential Center Garage: Best for Lyrik access, but enter via the Huntington Ave side to avoid the ramp closures.

Station Restrictions

The T is the move, but some doors are locked today:

  • Copley Station: CLOSED ALL DAY. Don’t plan to meet anyone here. Use Arlington or Hynes.
  • Hynes Convention Center: Restricted to Exit Only from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM to keep the Expo crowd moving.
  • Park Street Hub: OPEN and your best bet for Red and Green line transfers.

The Essential Relief: Restroom Map

Finding a bathroom among a million people is the real challenge. These are the most reliable Public Access points in the city today.

Back Bay Hub

The Pru & The Library

The Prudential Center has large, clean restrooms in the back near the food court. The Boston Public Library (Central) is open, but the lines are going to be long. Entrance is on the Dartmouth Street side.

Downtown & Common

Frog Pond & South Station

If you’re near the Common, use the permanent facilities at the Frog Pond. If you’re just getting into the city, South Station has bathrooms in the main concourse near the Amtrak seating.

Official B.A.A. Banks

Portable Facilities

The B.A.A. has massive banks of port-a-potties set up at Copley Square Park and along the cross-streets of Clarendon and Berkeley.
