Closure is a Scam. Just Walk Away.

A Maderel Exclusive

When a relationship ends, especially if it ends badly, your brain goes into overdrive. You feel like you have a million unanswered questions. You tell yourself, “If we could just sit down and have one last conversation, I would understand. I just need closure.”

But here is the hard truth: Closure is a scam. It is just a pretty word we use to excuse our desire to text someone who broke our heart.

The Apology You Are Looking For Doesn’t Exist

When you go looking for closure, you are secretly hoping for a movie moment. You want them to look you in the eyes, realize they made a massive mistake, and give you a perfect apology that takes the pain away.

But that almost never happens.

• They don’t have the answers: If they were mature enough to give you the closure you need, they wouldn’t have hurt you in the first place.

• It just causes more pain: Hearing their excuses or listening to them blame you will just make you angry all over again.

• It restarts the clock: Every time you text or call them, you rip the bandage off. You go right back to day one of your healing process.

The Disrespect Is the Closure

You do not need a final conversation to tell you that the relationship is over. Their actions already told you everything you need to know.

If they lied to you, that is your closure. If they walked away when things got hard, that is your closure. If they stopped treating you with respect, that is your closure. You do not need them to explain why they treated you badly; you just need to accept that you deserve better.

Lock the Door Yourself

Stop waiting for someone else to close the chapter for you. You have the pen. You get to decide when the story ends.

Do not send that long paragraph. Do not call them late at night. Take all of that energy and put it into moving forward. The best closure you will ever get is waking up one day and realizing you don’t even care about the answers anymore.
