The 2024 Formula 1 season concluded in dramatic fashion at the Yas Marina Circuit during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on December 8. Lando Norris claimed a stunning victory for McLaren, marking the team’s first constructors’ championship since 1998 and capping off a season of resurgence for the British outfit.

Norris delivered a masterclass performance, completing the 58 laps with a time of 1:26:33.291. He fended off fierce competition from Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, who finished just 5.8 seconds behind in second place, and his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc, who completed the podium in third. This result cemented McLaren’s dominance, as they edged out Ferrari in the constructors’ standings with a total of 666 points to Ferrari’s 652 .

The race was not without drama. Max Verstappen, who had already secured the drivers’ championship earlier in the season, finished sixth after an on-track clash with Oscar Piastri, which led to penalties. Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell took fourth and fifth respectively, showcasing a strong close to the season for the Silver Arrows .

Notably, this race highlighted McLaren’s incredible journey back to the top, with Norris and rookie teammate Piastri spearheading the effort. Piastri also scored a point in tenth place, adding to the team’s triumph. Meanwhile, Red Bull, despite Verstappen’s championship, faced challenges as Sergio Perez retired on the opening lap, raising questions about his future with the team .

The Abu Dhabi GP proved to be a fitting finale to an exhilarating season, setting the stage for even more intense rivalries and storylines in 2025. As fans bid farewell to 2024, the spotlight firmly remains on McLaren, who have now reignited hopes of reclaiming their former glory in Formula 1.
