- Can you share some details about your background and provide an introduction to yourself?
I’m Brandon Hatchie, a 28-year-old individual currently working as a dishwasher in a pizza restaurant. I have had previous work experiences in different jobs, but they didn’t work out as well as I had hoped. I come from a Polynesian background with roots in Hawaii, and my ethnicity comprises various mixes. I have one sister, no brothers, and I am an uncle to my nephew and goddaughter. I had pursued college but dropped out to focus on work, and I haven’t returned to complete my education. My intended major was kinesiology, with aspirations of becoming a sports coach or teacher.
- What are some of the passions in your life that you actively pursue?
One of my passions is building with Legos, which brings me a sense of peace and helps alleviate negativity in my life. I have always been a fan of Legos, and they assist me in managing my ADHD by providing a focused outlet to visualize and construct various sets. I have contemplated a career in housing or building design, where I can utilize Legos to envision and conceptualize homes or structures based on my own ideas. Currently, I am in the process of planning a remodeling project for my parents’ house, with blueprints in mind for the changes we want to implement.
- What goals do you aim to achieve for yourself within the next 1-2 years?
Although I have not set many goals in my life, I have always had a desire to engage in sports and potentially pursue a professional path. However, that opportunity never materialized, and looking back, I sometimes regret not pursuing it, as it has affected my confidence and long-term aspirations. At present, my primary goal is to be the best uncle to my 10-month-old goddaughter and my 2-year-old nephew. Growing up was challenging for me, but having gained experience and knowledge, I now want to be the person they look up to and rely on.
- Do you have any personal mantras or words of wisdom that guide you in your daily life?
One of the mantras I live by is “Life finds a way,” which was famously said by Ian Malcolm. This phrase resonates with me as a reminder that anything is possible and that life can take unexpected turns, both in positive and challenging ways. It serves as a reminder to remain adaptable and open-minded in the face of different circumstances.
- How do you perceive the current state of the world?
The world is in need of significant changes to create a better future, but unfortunately, humanity often hinders progress with its own destructive actions. Global warming stands as the second most critical ongoing threat, closely following the seventh mass extinction. However, I believe that the most pressing issue humanity faces is racism. It manifests in various forms, from crimes and conflicts to bullying, and it remains a pervasive and never-ending nightmare. It is essential for us to take a stand against racism and prevent it from permeating the minds of those influenced by its toxic effects.
