Introduce Yourself/Tell About Yourself: My name is Ariel Evans and I am an autoimmune warrior and chronic illness advocate. I am the author of Simply Thoughts: A Diary of Thoughts, Reflection and Poetry now available on Amazon. I love to dance, sing, write and watch tv! I’m a poet so I love to find deeper meaning in almost anything.

What Inspires You Every day? : My students inspire me every day. I am a special education teacher and my kiddos inspire me and keep me going daily through their courage, laughter, and strength.

My health also inspires me. As a person with autoimmune issues and chronic pain, I often feel like my body is betraying me. Yet, I find hope in the pain as well. Somedays are easier than others. When I’m in a flare, I’m reminded that although I have my frailties, everyday is a new chance at life. Every day, no matter how much pain I’m in or how bad I struggle, is truly a gift. Lift is a gift. I’m inspired to keep living, fighting, and sharing my journey with others.

What is some words of wisdom you live by?: My dad always says, “take it one day at a time.” These words have helped me to focus on what I can do and to tackle one thing at a time. As a person who overthinks and struggles with anxiety, making myself slow down and take it one task at a time is a must. I still get overwhelmed at times so, I have to keep myself grounded.

What is your ultimate goal in life? : My ultimate goal in life is to be my true unapologetic and authentic self while encouraging and empowering others to do the same. I want to be a light and share the love of God with everyone that I meet! May my imperfect life lead you to the perfect God.

How have you been during the pandemic and how has it affected you? : During the pandemic I’ve been more isolated than I usually would be. Sometimes out of fear (because I’m at a high risk) and other times because I needed time to get to know myself all over again. I think some isolation is good, it allowed me to focus on myself and work through some insecurities and trauma. I’ve tapped into my introverted traits during this time more than I have in my entire life and I’m not mad at it. Although, my extroverted side has suffered since I haven’t been able to see family members and have face to face communication and interactions. So my mental health has struggled as well. Overall, I can see myself growing as a person and enjoying my own company as a result of the isolation.

What is a message you would like to give others? : The hashtags that I use and live by daily are #bebold #bebrave #beyou #flawsandall and that is the message I would like to give others! In your pain, insecurities, mistakes, and strengths just BE YOU! You are the only You that this world was given! No matter our differences, I want you to be yourself because who you are is enough.

What else would you like to tell others about you or your life?: Feel free to follow me on Instagram and Twitter @simplyarirenee
I am taking a break from recording but, I have a podcast that was inspired by my book titled Simply Thoughts. It’s available on Anchor, Spotify, and Google Podcasts.
